As with the other paintings in this series, this particular image came to me and would not leave my head until being committed to canvas. Initially I didn't know why I needed to paint this so bad, as it doesn't flow with the other two before it (The Awakening & First Light). Months after completion I had an AH-HA! moment as to why this painting had to be done. A few weeks after completing Nova I found out I was pregnant with my first child, a baby girl! Once I had that realization everything made sense!
During the creation of this painting, I was borderline obsessed with the song Nova by VNV Nation. Although this painting isn't about the song, nor was it inspired by it, the following lyrics in the song really struck me and I felt was serendipitous to the image I was creating.
Shine, shine your light on me
Illuminate me, make me complete
Lay me down and wash this world from me
Open the skies and burn it all away
'Cause I've been waiting
All my life just waiting
For you to shine, shine your light on me
To me this is symbolic of how I feel like my daughter shines her light into my life, and makes me feel complete in a way I have never felt before. And at that time I didn't know it, but I have been waiting all of my life to have her shine her light on me.
The original painting is 18" x 24" oil on board.
